Official Spokesperson
The President, or in his or her absence, the Executive Vice President, of AAO-HNS and AAO-HNSF, shall be the official spokesperson for these organizations with respect to national health policy issues, including but not limited to clinical indicators, relative values, or reimbursement issues. Any other person wishing to communicate or disseminate on behalf of AAO-HNS or AAO-HNSF an official statement, policy or opinion on national health policy issues must first consult with and obtain the approval of the Executive Vice President of AAO-HNSF. If necessary, the Executive Vice President will seek the guidance of the President and/or the relevant Executive and Finance Committee before providing such approval.

The applicability of an indicator for a procedure, and/or of the process or outcome criteria, must be determined by the responsible physician in light of all the circumstances presented by the individual patient. Adherence to these guidelines will not ensure successful treatment in every situation. The AAO-HNS emphasizes that these policies should not be deemed inclusive of all proper treatment decisions or methods of care, nor exclusive of other treatment decisions or methods of care reasonably directed to obtaining the same results.
